Multiple crashes Monday morning resulted in a hazmat spill on I-85. The South Carolina Highway Patrol responded just after 3AM to a report of three separate crashes, two of them involving tractor trailers.

The wrecks happened near exit 44 on I-85 southbound. The Highway Patrol says, the fuel tanks on the trucks were damaged causing nearly 100 gallons of fuel to pour out on the roadway.

The SCDOT responded to the scene to see if the spill can be cleaned up or if the road needs to be repaved. As of 8:30 this morning, the two right lanes of I-85 in that area were still blocked.

DHEC officials also responded to the crash site.
