The Aex Murdaugh trial is winding down.  Despite reams of circumstantial evidence and hours of testimony, the verdict still hinges on whether the jury believes the 72nd person on the witness stand.

Alex Murdaugh himself took the stand as the eleventh and final witness for the defense. He blamed paranoid confusion from years of opioid abuse for lying to investigators about where he was,and when, on the night his wife and son were murdered.

SLED investigators portrayed the cell phone video placing Murdaugh at the scene minutes before Paul and Maggie's phones went silent as the circumstantial equivalent of a smoking gun.

However the county coroner conceded that instead of using a thermometer he only felt for the warmth of the victims' armpits to establish the time of death. The uncertainty of that key factor is certain to be challenged in the defense team's final arguments.
