An arrest has been made after an elderly man was found buried on a property in the Upstate, earlier this week. After controversy and consternation between coroners from two different counties, it has been confirmed the remains found in the Waterloo Community of Laurens County were that of 87 year old, Edwin Geer.
Now, the Newberry County Sheriff's Office says a suspect has been arrested in connection to Geer's death. Richard Lewis Cribb has been charged with murder, armed robbery, 1st degree burglary and grand larceny. Investigators say, Cribb used Geer's credit cards and pawned some of his belongings while Geer was missing.
Cribb also reportedly leased a small excavator and took to the property, where Geer was found buried in a shallow grave. Officials say Cribb had fled to Horry County where he was taken into custody.
Newberry County Sheriff Lee Foster said “It appeared that the individual had buried him there and had taken great caution to try to conceal it the best he could, but also to cover up the body.”
