Measles cases continue to rise in the Upstate...
The South Carolina Department of Public Health says that as of Friday, December 5, 2025, eight new measles cases have been confirmed in the Upstate.
That brings the total number of cases to 84, most of them in Spartanburg County. Seven of the new cases are household contacts of previously known cases. The source of the eighth case is still under investigation.
Based on the new infections, DPH has identified public exposures at four additional schools and began notifying potentially exposed individuals on December 1st. The schools are Fairforest Elementary, Rainbow Lake Middle, Fairforest Middle, and Dorman High School.
Students from those schools who complete quarantine without developing symptoms are expected to return to class between December 11 and 15, 2025.
In total, 281 people are currently in quarantine and two are in isolation, according to DPH.
Measles is highly contagious. The virus can remain in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves an area. A person is contagious four days before and four days after the rash appears.
