An Upstate college baseball team has moved one step closer in their quest for a National Championship. North Greenville University got a 3-1 win over West Chester, in their opening round game Sunday at the NCAA DII World Series in Cary, NC.

The Crusaders got on the board first with a solo homer in the 2nd from DH John Michael Fail. North Greenville would go up 2-0 on an RBI single from Shortstop Cory Bivins in the 5th. West Chester would score in the top of the 6th to make it 2-1. North Greenville would add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th when 2nd Baseman Gehrig Octavio singled up the middle.
Reece Field got the win on the hill for North Greenville, he went 7 innings allowing just one run on 5 hits. Brent Herlong would get the save after working the final two innings, holding West Chester scoreless.
The Crusaders are the #1 seed in the tournament and eclipsed the 50 win mark for the season with the victory. They'll take on 5th ranked Angelo State Tuesday night at 6 PM. The winner of that game will advance to the Championship Round Thursday.
