A now former detention officer in the Upstate is facing charges. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office says 34 year old Sara Joyce Powell of Westminster is charged with furnishing contraband and misconduct in office.
The Sheriff's Office says an investigation revealed that Powell has been distributing contraband to inmates over the course of the last 9 months. She was terminated prior to her arrest, Thursday night.
The Sheriff's Office said Powell was released from Friday morning on a combined $20,000 personal recognizance bond after a bond hearing.
