An Upstate man has been convicted in connection to his elderly mother's death four years ago. On Tuesday, a jury in Oconee County found 62 year old, Mack Adams Gaines guilty of Unlawful Neglect Of A Vulnerable Adult Resulting In Death. The charge stems from the death of his mother 92 year old, Alma Louise Gaines.
Court documents say, Gaines failed to contact EMS until four days after his mother fell in the home they shared. She was severly injured in the fall and later died from those injuries. Prosecutors say, Ms. Gaines had not been moved or been given adequate care during that period.
10th Circuit Solicitor David Wagner said following the verdict " This was a senseless act of neglect, that ultimately costs a defenseless, 92 year old woman her life." Circuit Court Judge Scott Sprouse sentenced Mack Gaines to 20 years in prison.
