Several current and former Upstate inmates turning their lives around through certifications at a local community college.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office held a graduation ceremony at the Law Enforcement Center in Walhalla to recognize the efforts of five current and one former state inmate.

All six completed courses at Tri-County Technical College and earned Certified Production Technician Certifications.

The five current inmates are not being identified, but former inmate Keenan Davis returned to the Sheriff’s Office after his release in order to complete the program.

Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw said in a press release, “We are proud of the dedication and the hard work of these men who have earned this certification. In partnership with Tri-County Technical College, we have provided this opportunity and these men have demonstrated by their effort and commitment that they are ready to make a change in their lives.”

The certification program began in April earlier this year as part of the “Life after Lock-Up” program.
