OCSO Makes Second Arrest In Auto Break-Ins Case

An investigation into a vehicle break-ins began in May of 2022 when the Oconee County Sheriff's Office was called to Lake Hartwell State Park in Fair Play.

The suspects made off with two wallets, which contained debit and credit cards, and later attempted to use one of those cards at the Hwy 28 Bypass Walmart in Anderson. Auto break-ins were also reported a month later at Chau Ram County Park near Westminster.

In a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office in October of 2022, they announced their first arrest of then 31 year old Breon Antwon Davis of Spartanburg.

On Friday, January 24, 2025, Cpl. Jimmy Watt with the Sheriff's Office announced a second arrest in the case. 30 year old Stephon Shaquille Samuel of Spartanburg was transferred from a Nashville TN jail and booked into the Oconee County Detention Center Thursday morning.

Based upon evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigators obtained seven arrest warrants each against Davis and Samuel for their involvement in the crimes.

The Oconee County Sheriff's Office says they are "continuing its investigation."

(Walhalla, SC)--The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today a second arrest in a 2022 investigation into auto break-ins and thefts that occurred at two separate locations in Oconee County. 30 year old Stephon Shaquille Samuel, who has listed address in Spartanburg, SC and Fort Lauderdale, FL, was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center at around 12:07am Thursday morning. Samuel was transferred from a Nashville, TN jail to Oconee County by Deputies assigned to the Warrants Unit.

Samuel had outstanding warrants charging him with three counts each of Petit Larceny and Breaking into a Motor Vehicle and one count of Grand Larceny. At this time, Samuel remains in jail on a combined $31,375.00 surety bond.

In a news release issued by the Sheriff’s Office on October 28th, 2022, the Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 33 year old Breon Antwon Davis (31 years old at the time of his arrest in 2022), also with listed addresses in Spartanburg, SC and Fort Lauderdale, FL, on charges in relation to the same investigations.

Davis was transported from the Sumter County Detention Center to the Oconee County Detention Center and booked into jail on October 27th, 2022. Davis was also served seven arrest warrants (three counts each of Breaking into a Motor Vehicle and Petit Larceny and one count of Grand Larceny). A hold was placed on Davis by the York County Sheriff’s and custody of Davis was transferred to their agency.

Back on June 30th, 2022, the Sheriff’s Office issued a news release seeking the public’s help in regards to a vehicle break-in and theft that occurred on May 28th, 2022 at Lake Hartwell State Park, which is located on S. Highway 11 near Fair Play. In that investigation, the victims discovered that their vehicle, a 2009 Mazda CX9, had been broken into and both of their wallets had been stolen. Among the items contained in the wallets were banking cards and credit cards, as well as a two separate CWP cards and a driver’s license.

Further investigation showed that several attempts were made to use one of the cards at the Walmart location on the Highway 28 by-pass in Anderson. The case was turned over to the Property Crime Investigators with the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

While continuing to investigate the vehicle break-in and theft at Lake Hartwell State Park, deputies took two reports of two separate vehicles that were broken into at Chau Ram County Park near Westminster on June 26th, 2022.

In one incident, a 2012 Toyota Highlander was broken into and a purse containing debit and credit cards, as well as an ID and some jewelry was taken. In the second incident on the same day, a 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe was broken into and a purse was taken that contained jewelry.

Based upon evidence gathered during the investigation, Investigators obtained seven arrest warrants each against Davis and Samuel for their involvement in the crimes. The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation.
