A now former Upstate Detention Officer is being accused of smuggling drugs into the jail that worked at. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office says a multi-unit investigation has resulted in 40 year old Joey Ghant being charged with misconduct in office.
Investigators say evidence confirmed that Ghant took money from an undercover agent as payment for him bringing drugs into the Spartanburg County jail and distributing them to inmates there.

Ghant was arrested Wednesday morning when he arrived for his schedule shift. He has since been terminated and ironically was booked into the same jail.
