Officials: Escaped inmate had hit list

Authorities say, a now captured inmate who escaped an Upstate jail last month, had what they described as a "verbal hit list". Union County Officials report, that David Paul Strickland had a list of about 40 people including some law enforcement officers, he wanted dead.

He escaped from the Union County Detention Center Sept. 30th. Union County Jail Director Neil McKeown said, Strickland put blankets and clothing up on the razor wire part of the fence, so he could scale it. Strickland was at large for over a week, before he was found hiding in an abandoned house in Union County.

Sheriff Jeff Bailey says, overcrowding played a part in Strickland's escape. Due to threats he made, several agencies were called into to help in the search. Strickland was jailed in August on charges of stealing a vehicle and numerous traffic violations.

This was his 2nd escape after , he fled a Bennettsville prison in 2002 and was apprehended that same day. Strickland has a criminal history that dates back more than 25 years.
