Controversy is surrounding a symbol that many equate to the era of slavery in the South. A large and visible Confederate flag has been spotted along I-85 in Spartanburg County.

Officials there say, the flag pole violates a land use ordinance and mist come down in the coming weeks. If the owner does not comply , Spartanburg County officials say, the next steps in zoning ordinances will be taken.
Spartanburg County property records, show that the Sons Of Confederate Veterans group owns the property where the flag is raised. The pole and Confederate flag went up sometime this past weekend.
