It was mayhem in the mountains Friday morning, as a home invasion in Western North Carolina turned deadly.
Officers from Forest City Police Department and Rutherford County Deputies responded to a reported home invasion on Harris Lee Drive just before 10AM.
Details are limited at this time, but the Sheriff's Office has confirmed that one person died as a result of the home invasion. There's been no further information released, and the incident remains under investigation.
Officials say there's no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.
