One person dead in fishing tournament incident on Lake Hartwell

Anderson - One person has died following a boat sinking during a fishing tournament on Lake Hartwell.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Shale Remien in a media release Saturday afternoon said the incident occurred at a private fishing tournament at Sadlers Creek when a boat with four people on board which was participating in the event began to sink. Tournament staff and others at the event assisted in the rescue. Three of the four did not require hospitalization.

However EMS had to perform CPR on a woman who was pulled from the water and taken to a hospital. The Anderson County Coroner's Office has reported that the woman died Saturday afternoon.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released. An investigation is ongoing.
