The parents of a 5 year old girl from out of state after facing charges after she found dead in South Carolina's lowcountry. Officials in Georgetown County say 5 year old, Saylor Hayes was found dead in the water there, Monday morning. The child was non-verbal due to autism and had been reported missing by her parents.
Both parents 70 year old John Herb Hayes III and 31 year old, Geordyn Nicole Hayes were arrested in East Tennessee on Tuesday, after they reported Saylor missing Sunday in Georgetown County. They are both charged with placing a child at risk. Geordyn Hayes also faces similar charges in Virginia.
She told authorities her daughter just wandered off from the house they were renting in Pawley's Island. The girl had been equipped with a monitoring device since she was non-verbal.
However, officials say that device was removed before she went missing which slowed down the process of locating her. The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office says the investigation into the child's death remains active and ongoing.
