An investigation is ongoing after a weekend riot at a Midlands jail. The Richland County Sheriff's Department responded around 8 PM Sunday night to the Alvin S Glenn Detention Center.
The department says a fire was started by multiple inmates at the jail. Firefighters were called in and were able to put the blaze out. An inmate had broken a door that led to the location of the fire and crews then forced entry into the door.
The Sheriff's Department says inmates armed themselves with blunt objects turning the incident into a riot. Deputies helped detention officers get control of the scene and secure the inmates.
No injuries were reported to inmates or detention officers. The incident is still being investigated, more information is expected to be released, as the investigation continues.
