Prisma partnering with Upstate Sheriff's Office to combat overdose deaths

A major healthcare provider is teaming up with an Upstate Sheriff's Office in effort to fight fatal overdoses.

Prisma Health's Addiction Medicine Center is partnering with the Oconee County Detention Center to supply Narcan to inmates at high risk of overdosing on opioids.

Prisma got a grant of nearly $800,00 to fund projects such as these. A press conference was held Wednesday morning at the Oconee County Sheriff's Office to announce the new program.

Oconee County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt spoke at the event and talked about how this partnership is part of a larger effort to keep the community safer, which is part of Sheriff Crenshaw's larger vision.

Prisma Emergency Physician and Medical School Professor Dr. Phillip Moschella also spoke at the event calling it part of an effort to create an "Ecosystem Of Recovery".
