A former professor at an Upstate University is suing the school, after he was fired for a social media post regarding the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Dr. Joshua Bregy has filed suit against Clemson University, after he was terminated for his comments.
The ACLU is backing Bregy, and they filed a complaint on his behalf saying his 1st Amendment rights were violated in the termination. ACLU Legal Director Allen Chaney said, "when it comes to free speech, Clemson isn't allowed to cave to the whims of a political mob".
Bregy's firing came after a number of political officials demanded that Clemson fire employees who made controversial or celebratory remarks in the wake of Charlie Kirk's death.
Those on that side of the argument contend that free speech is still not free from consequences.
Bregy and the ACLU are demanding he be reinstated and compensated for financial damages.
