A vast majority if voters in Cherokee County shot down a referendum that would have funded two new middle schools. Over three quarters of voters rejected the referendum.

The School District's plan would have increased tax millage to pay for the new schools, which had an estimated total price tag of over 160 million. The increased millage would have raised property taxes on homes by $142 per year for every $100,000 of value. Vehicle taxes would have been raised $21 per $10,000 of value.

Just 17% of the voters voted to approve the plan.
