A suspicious package reported Monday afternoon caused the temporary closure of a major thoroughfare in the Upstate. Police and fire personnel responded to the Army Reserve Center on Ezell Boulevard in Spartanburg around 12:45 PM.
Upon arrival, they found a bucket that was sealed with duct tape and had wires coming from it. The Spartanburg County Bomb Squad was called in to examine the bucket. They determined that it was holding a speaker and alarm inside and was not any sort of explosive device.
Part of Ezell Boulevard was closed for more than an hour while the package was investigated. The road was then re-opened once it was determined there was no threat to the public.
There's been no word from officials on who placed the bucket at the Reserve Center or why it was left there.
