South Carolina's most famous prison inmate is back making headlines after making his request for a new trial official. Lawyers for Alex Murdaugh officially filed a motion for a new trial in his double murder case.
The motion was made in Colleton County on Friday. Murdaugh is currently serving life sentences after being convicted of killing his wife, Maggie and son, Paul earlier this year.
The new trial request comes after Murdaugh's defense team claimed that Clerk Of Court Rebecca Hill tried to influence the jury to get a guilty verdict in the original trial. The State Attorney Genera's Office has asked SLED to investigate those claims.
