The Upstate continues to see a high number of traffic fatalities after two separate fatal weekend collisions. Corporal Joe Hovis of the South Carolina Highway Patrol says both crashes happened Sunday afternoon in Anderson County.
In one collision, an Anderson County Sheriff's Office vehicle struck a Nissan sedan on Highway 28 just a few miles west of Anderson. The impact killed the driver of the Nissan, the driver of the Sheriff's Office SUV was injured and taken to Anmed.
The other crash happened on Danenhower Road about 6 miles west of Pendelton, when the driver of a 2008 Toyota sedan crossed the centerline and hit a 2009 Toyota sedan head on. The driver of the 2008 Toyota died at the scene of the crash.
As of last week, South Carolina had the 9th most traffic fatalities in the nation, so far this year and was 2nd in the nation in fatal crashes per capita.
