The School Board for Laurens District 55 voted Thursday to hire the State School Boards Association (SCSBA) to conduct the search for a new superintendent.
Dr. Ameca Thomas, who previously held the position, resigned last month due to a a "rift" between she and board chair Cathy Little.
The SCSBA will be responsible for focus groups, to include teachers and parents, as well as interviews. The selection process is expected to take 3 to 6 months.
Currently, Dr. Jody Penland and Dr. Rhett Harris are serving as interim co-superintendents. Both will receive additional compensation until a new superintendent is hired.
