A Women's Basketball player coming off a National Title Season could go from the hardwood to doing hard time after being arrested over the weekend. Ashlyn Watkins from South Carolina Women's Basketball was arrested in the Midlands Saturday on charges of kidnapping and assault.
WLTX TV reports that Campus Police filed a warrant saying Watkins grabbed the victim, picked her up and carried her, preventing her from the leaving.
Watkins is a 6 foot 3 Junior who played a contributing role in the program's unbeaten National Title run this past season. The warrant says the victim was able to get free enough to pull a fire alarm which prompted police and firefighters to respond.
The victim was treated for injuries that were described as non-life threatening. Watkins led South Carolina in blocked shot this past season and is the first player in Women's program history to dunk in a game.
She is set to appear in court to face these charges October 25th. Watkins has since been released on a $30,000 bond and was ordered not to have any sort of contact with the victim.
