Earlier this year, SCDOT lowered the weight limit on the McDaniel Avenue Bridge in Greenville after an inspection of the bridge revealed extensive corrosion on the existing steel beams. The weight restriction was a temporary measure until the bridge could be replaced.
The SCDOT bridge replacement project is scheduled to begin July 6 and take approximately six months to complete. During that time, the City of Greenville will also replace the sewer main located underneath the bridge to increase capacity for the south downtown area.
The McDaniel Avenue Bridge will be closed beginning July 6, and the section of McDaniel Avenue between the bridge and Cleveland Street will be open to local traffic only.
