There has been talk among legislators in South Carolina for some time about the possibility of ending state income taxes. However, that talk has been just that. The State has announced a plan to reduce taxes specifically on those in higher tax brackets. However, it is a small reduction and many want to see the state income tax eliminated completely. With inflation soaring, an elimination of that tax would allow the working public some more breathing room, as the dollar is stretching near as far currently. 9 states have no income taxes, Alaska, Florida, Texas, Tennessee, Nevada, South Dakota, Washington, Wyoming and New Hampshire. As a former resident of Houston, Texas for 5 years I saw the benefits of no state income taxes. I also saw that cities like Houston have a high hospitality tax to try and off set the lack of state income taxes. Many of the states on this 9 member list use the no state income taxes as a way to entice people to move there and grow there populations. Alaska is said to be the most tax friendly state in America.
