Governor McMaster has said that he desires to put a billion-plus dollars into high priority transportation projects around the state. Expanding parts of I-85 in the Upstate is on the SCDOT's list. However, it is not a high priority on the list and the state does not plan to use their one time funding to expedite the project to widen part of I-85 in the Upstate. The plan to make stretches of 85 wider would help to alleviate traffic related concerns in that area. One specific area that could use immediate expansion is around the Pelham Road exit. The questions for many Upstate residents are, how long will it take for completion and why is it not a high priority item?
Should the state expedite projects to expand I-85?
