President Biden has announced a plan to forgive student debt. Many conservatives have been outspoken in their criticisms of the plan, including Sen. Tim Scott and Governor McMaster among others. I can only really speak for myself on this, but I am heavily opposed to the plan. I got my degree by going part time and worked two jobs to put myself through it. I paid 80% of the cost of college education myself, the rest was small scholarships that I qualified for due to economic performance and income level. I chose to pursue the route I went, knowing it would take me longer because I didn't want student debt for years after school was over. I think that those who paid their way through or parents who paid their child's way deserve consideration in this. However, this plan has no considerations for those groups, that I can find. I believe that part of the reason this is being done, is for political gain. Most of the people who have student debt would be in their 20's or early 30's, I think this panders to that demographic to help swing support to liberals. I don't see what other positive outcome there could be for this plan? As, we all know this student debt forgiveness will become tacked on to what will be increased tax burdens on the working class. So today's question is- Should those that paid off their student debt or paid their way through without debt be reimbursed?
