Authorities responded Monday afternoon to the scene of a reported deputy-involved shooting in Greenville. No deputies were injured in the incident on Wade Hampton Blvd near Pine Knoll Drive. However, reports indicate the unidentified suspect and a K-9 may have been injured in the shooting.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis spoke with media at the scene, where he explained the incident began just before 3pm when Department of Homeland Security deputies were attempting to serve felony warrants on a suspect.

Sheriff Lewis explained that the suspect then stabbed a K-9, which was taken to an emergency veterinary clinic. Three deputies then fired at the suspect, who was injured and taken to the hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

SLED has been called in to investigate, which is standard procedure in deputy-involved shootings. No further information on the incident has been released, as of this time. We plan to have more on this story, as new details emerge.
