A fatal December officer involved shooting in the Upstate still under investigation. A press release issued by The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division early last week, recounted the event that unfolded in Travelers Rest.
A Greenville County Sheriff's Office Deputy responded to a domestic disturbance that involved an armed man at a home on Mountain Lake Lane December 28th.
On scene, The Deputy encountered the armed suspect, later identified by the Corner as 66 year old Joseph Mason, outside the home. Mason was shot and later died at the hospital.
The press release said SLED was requested to investigate by the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. At this time, no other information has been released. However, SLED investigating law enforcement involved shootings is standard protocol, statewide.
The incident in Greenville County was the 45th officer involved shooting in the state, and the 7th for the Sheriff's Office in 2024.
