An Upstate traffic stop earlier this week resulted in the discovery of guns and drugs, as well as the arrest of a Spartanburg County man.
On Monday, the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office stopped a vehicle on Asheville Highway for failure to signal. Deputies noticed the driver, 53 year old Jeffrey Scott Newman of Boiling Springs was acting extremely nervous. He orginally refused to consent to a search of the vehicle.
A K-9 unit was brought in and indicated that drugs were in the vehicle giving the deputies probable cause for the search. Nearly half an ounce of what is believed to Fentanyl was found in the vehicle. A subsequent search of his home revealed another 6 ounces of Fentanyl and over 4 and half ounces of what is believed to be Methamphetamine, 2 guns and unidentified substance.After he was transported Spartanburg County Jail staff found another 8.5 grams o f Fentanyl and 4 grams of meth on his person.
In total, nearly 8 ounces of Fentanyl , 4 and a half ounces of meth, 55 unidentified tablets, two firearms and over $4,000 cash was seized. Newman faces a list of crimes including several counts of drug trafficking and multiple weapons charges. He was denied bond at a hearing on Wednesday
