A standoff Monday between a suspect and deputies at a home in Oconee County ends with a peaceful surrender. The Oconee County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Unit went to serve a search warrant at a home on North Little River Road in Salem.
The warrant stated that 50 plus animals, primarily dogs were being housed in the home in deplorable conditions.
During the execution of the search warrant a man presented a gun and barricaded himself inside the home. The Animal Control Officers and a Veterinarian who was called to the scene, were able to leave the property unharmed.
The SWAT Team was called in and negotiators made contact with the suspect. He eventually surrendered peacefully around 130 PM Monday. The suspect, a woman and another man were all taken into custody. There were no injuries reported by Sheriff's Office personnel.
Neither the suspect involved in the standoff or the other two people taken into custody have been identified, as of the time of this report.
