South Carolina Republicans have steadily increased their hold on elected offices and in the midterms are poised to maintain control of the congressional delegation, statewide-elected seats and legislative chambers.
Republican Gov. Henry McMaster is seeking his second full term against former Congressman Joe Cunningham. Most of South Carolina’s seven U.S. House seats are considered safe for incumbents.
The sole congressional Democrat, House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, is expected to win his 16th term. U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, in what he has said will be his final Senate campaign, is expected to win a second full term. The general election is Tuesday, November 8th.
