A suspect is in custody after being accused of shooting a woman in the head while a child was in the vehicle. The Union County Sheriff's Office responded around 1PM Thursday afternoon to a reported shooting on Beltline Road.
Deputies arrived and found an SUV on the side of the road with two adults and a child inside. The Sheriff's Office says the woman was shot in the head with a 9MM handgun. She was transported to the hospital to be treated.
The suspect, 32 year old Dustin Medford, was then located inside his vehicle at his home with a child inside. Medford is charged with 3 counts of attempted murder, child endangerment and a weapons violation.
The incident remains under investigation, and the sheriff's office has not released a motive for the shooting.
