A suspect is in custody after being hospitalized following a chase involving the Chief of an Upstate police department. Robert Crosby, Chief Of Police in Pendelton says a chase began when he spotted a driver speeding on South Mechanic Street, just before 2 PM Tuesday afternoon.
Crosby tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver led him on a chase. Dispatched confirmed to Chief Crosby that the vehicle had been reported stolen out of Spartanburg.
The suspect vehicle eventually ran off the road, slid down and embankment and came to a stop on the railroad tracks near East Queen Street. The suspect, 32 year old Thomas Devan Capell of Pendelton tried running from the wrecked van, but was apprehended.
Capell was transported to a local hospital to be treated. He's charged with receiving stolen goods, failure to stop, driving under suspension and reckless driving. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office assisted in the pursuit.
