A suspect is dead following a standoff with deputies in the Midlands that lasted several hours. The Lexington County Sheriff's Department says, the standoff began around 6:30 Wednesday morning, after tactical units went to a home in West Columbia to arrest a 29 year old suspect, who has not yet been identified.

Officials say, the man refused to come out of the home and fired at deputies. He then stepped out of the house and again began firing at deputies. They returned fire and the man was shot in the face.

He retreated back inside the house and was found unresponsive in his bathroom. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. The Sheriff's Department says, warrants had been issued for the suspect's arrest after he pointed a gun at his neighbors, earlier this month.
