One person is in custody and another is fighting for their life after a robbery in the Upstate, earlier this week. The Laurens Police Department responded Monday night, to a report of a man in need of help on Shands Street.
The suspect, Chyanna Latimore was reportedly operating a taxi service out of her vehicle. Investigators say, Latimore was dropping off a customer and noticed he had a large stack of cash.
She allegedly asked the man if she could hold the money to take a photo with it for her birthday. However, police claim Latimore began to drive away with the cash. The man who was standing outside the vehicle, reached through the window and grabbed the steering wheel. He was then dragged down the street.
The victim was seriously injured and was airlifted from Laurens to Greenville Memorial for treatment. Latimore is accused of stealing around $2,300 from the victim, police have recovered about $1,600 of that already. Latimore is charged with strong armed robbery and aggravated assault.
The victim is said to be on a ventilator, charges against the suspect are expected to be upgraded if the victim does not survive.
