The suspect that was fatally shot after an encounter with deputies in the Upstate Wednesday morning has now been identified. Terrance Maurice Sligh has been identified as the suspect, shot and killed by Greenville County Deputies.

The fatal encounter happened around 10 AM in the parking lot of an apartment building on Edwards Road in Taylors. The Sheriff's Office says, Sligh was armed at the time of the incident. Deputies were serving a warrant on him for unlawful communication. He reportedly sent a threatening message containing a picture of a gun to his former girlfriend.

On Wednesday evening, Upstate activist Bruce Wilson released a statement on behalf of Sligh's mother that said " “I am heartbroken at today’s events, but in my grief I am asking for a full, complete and transparent investigation into the events surrounding my son’s death. At the appropriate time I will make a more detailed statement”.

There were no reported injuries to the four deputies involved, they have all been put on administrative leave pending the results of the investigation into the incident. SLED is investigating which is standard protocol in officer involved shooting. The GCSO is also launching their own investigation into the incident.
