More details have been released following an officer involved shooting in the Upstate, early Friday morning. The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office responded around 3:20 AM to a call from a girl, who said her dad had two guns and was threatening to shoot someone and himself inside a home in Boiling Springs.
Phone contact was then made with a man inside the house who confirmed the child's report and said there were multiple other children inside the home.
Deputies arrived and set up a perimeter, but the suspect refused to surrender. A man and all the children except one were able to escape the house by climbing out of a window.
The suspect, who has not yet been identified then held the one remaining child hostage. He reportedly pointed a gun at deputies, they then fired shots at the suspect. The hostage was recused and no deputies were injured in the incident.
The Spartanburg County Coroner's Office was called to the scene, as the suspect was reportedly killed in the shooting. SLED is investigating the incident, which is standard protocol in all law enforcement involved shootings, around the state.
