A suspect is in custody after police say he tried to carjack vehicles and steal a police car at an Upstate mall. The Spartanburg Police Department responded to Westgate Mall around 4PM, Tuesday.
Mall security told police the man had threatened customers and was removed from the mall. Once he was outside in the mall parking lot, the suspect tried to carjack vehicles.
When police arrived the man who has not been identified forced himself into a police car. Police tried to use a taser on the suspect, but it did not work. The suspect also reportedly punched an officer. He was eventually taken into custody.
Charges against the suspect are still pending, as of the time of this report.
