
A suspect is dead after a long standoff with police in Western North Carolina. Around 2:30 Monday afternoon, Officers with the Black Mountain Police Department attempted a traffic stop on a suspect who was wanted on child sex crime charges.
The suspect then led police on a chase, before crashing into the side of the Apple Blossom Motel. He then barricaded himself inside a hotel room. The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office was called in and sent a special response team and negotiators to the scene.
After a standoff that lasted several hours, police lost contact with the suspect. They forced entry into the room and found the suspect dead from a self inflicted gunshot wound.
The identity of the suspect has not been released, as of the time of this report.
