A Greenville County student is charged with taking a gun to class. The school resource officer at Tanglewood Middle School says a call to an anonymous tipline led to the arrest of the student around 9:00 AM Thursday morning.

The gun was found in a backpack. Charges are being filed. The unidentified student will be transferred to the juvenile detention center in Columbia pending a hearing.

Sheriff Hobart Lewis commented on the case saying, he's “saddened" that a child felt the need to carry a gun in school, but added, " I am thankful for the swift and collaborative actions taken and the deputies for quickly taking action to ensure the safety of our children."

This incident comes after 12 year old student, Jamari Jackson was fatally shot at Tanglewood Middle School in 2022.
