The teenaged driver arrested at the end of a chase and shootout in downtown Greenville last week is charged with attempted murder.
The young fugitive is identified as 17 year old. Timothy Scott. SLED has investigated the case because one of the Anderson County Deputies who had chased his car from just outside Piedmont also fired a shot in the final confrontation.
No one was hit. Scott was taken to the hospital for evaluation. Deputies say he was speeding, then ran a stop sign when they tried to pull him over on McNeely Road around 10:30 last Thursday night. They say he started shooting when his car ran into a ditch, emptied the gun according to SLED, then got back onto the road and headed for Greenville.
He was caught up with on Academy and College Streets. SLED says he opened fire again. this time, one of the deputies fired back. .
Still no mention of a motive, but he's now charged with two counts of attempted murder.
It's the first instance of an Anderson County Deputy discharging a weapon this year.
