A teenage boy from the Midlands has become the 1st person charged for sexual extortion under a new state law. The State News Paper reports that a 14 year old from Chapin threatened to release doctored nude images of a female classmate.
Officials say, The fact that the images are not real does not matter in terms of the case being prosecuted. The identity of the suspect has not been released due to him being a minor. He's since been released to the care of his parents and will appear in family court in the upcoming future.
The new statute known as Gavin's law was passed by state legislators, earlier this year. The bill was authored by State Representative Brandon Guffey of York, who's 17 year old son Gavin was sexually extorted and eventually took his own life.
Penalties under the new law are considerably less if the offender is a minor, like in this case.
