A driver police say fired shots at Anderson County Sheriff's Deputies is in custody, captured early Friday morning in downtown Greenville. The Anderson County Sheriff's Office has released a statement with more details on Thursday night's chase and shooting that covered two upstate counties.

It began with Anderson County Deputies attempting to stop a car driving along McNeely and River Road just after 10:30 PM Thursday evening. The driver, a teenager, ran a stop sign and continued to ignore our deputies’ blue lights. After driving into a ditch, the driver immediately started shooting at deputies, striking a deputy’s car several times.

A chase began to try and it crossed county lines into Greenville. Several attempts to stop the car were made and it eventually came to a halt along Academy and College Street in downtown Greenville.

As deputies tried to bring the suspect into custody, the teenager once again opened fire on deputies, striking their car several times.

The teenager was taken into custody and was then transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital for treatment. SLED is investigating
