A convenience store chain considered to be an institution in Texas is set to come to the Upstate. However, multi-million dollar infrastructure needs will have to be met to make that a reality. Buc-ee's is an iconic brand in the Lone Star State. They have plans to open a location in Anderson County on I-85's Exit 21.
The company has purchased land there but the needed infrastructure would cost 40 to 50 million dollars. Officials in Anderson County say there are multiple options to get the funding that would alleviate costs to tax payers. Those options include the company paying a portion of the costs.
Buc-ee's is set to open their first South Carolina location next month in Florence. The Texas based chain has already expanded in the Southeast with locations operating in Florida, Alabama and Georgia. The Anderson location is expected to open in 2025.
