Three already incarcerated Upstate men are the final gang members to be sentenced in South Carolina's largest ever RICO case. The sentencing came after a massive investigation into the Insane Gangster Disciples or IGD.
The U.S. Department Of Justice says at least three Upstate murders are linked to the gang. 35 year old, James Robert Peterson of Gaffney, 31 year old Edward Gary Akridge of Greenville and 43 year old Juan Rodriguez of Woodruff all have been convicted of orchestrating crimes by using contraband cell phones in prison.
Peterson was sentenced to life in prison on RICO conspiracy charges and kidnapping resulting in death. Akridge was sentenced to 30 years for conspiracy and his involvement in a murder committed by members of the IGD.
Rodriguez was charged in the gang's drug trafficking activity and has been sentenced to 10 years. In all, 40 members and associates of the IGD have been convicted and sentenced.
