The trial began Monday for three people charged following the death of a 14 year old Upstate girl, over two years ago. The teenager had several disabilities that required daily care.
After the teen died, charges of murder and unlawful neglect were filed against her parents David and Bobby Jo Baynard and her brother Edward Baynard.
The investigation began in April of 2022 when the girl was taken to a hospital in Cherokee County, she arrived unresponsive and was pronounced dead. Investigators say the Baynard's neglected the girl and refused to take her to doctors appointments for nearly a year.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office described the Baynard's home as "deplorable conditions" upon a search following the girl's death. The trial continued Tuesday and is expected to conclude by the end of the week.
