A truck driver has been arrested after leading deputies on a chase across two Upstate counties.

The Anderson Police Department says the chase started when officers woke up the driver of an 18 wheeler in the parking lot of the Walmart on Liberty Highway.

The driver 48 year old, Michael James Akers then drove away when officers knocked on the cab of the truck. Police tried stopping the truck, then the Anderson County Sheriff's Office picked up the pursuit.

Deputies used stop sticks at one point, however Akers kept driving and entered Oconee County. Deputies there then got involved in the chase and Akers turned onto Highway 59. He then turned on to Bratton Road and hit a stop sign and another road sign.

The truck eventually came to a halt due to the effects of the stop sticks. Akers was then taken into custody. He's charged with failure to stop for blue lights, open container and reckless driving.
