Two alternates have now stepped in as members of the jury in the state's highest profile murder trial in decades. Two members of the jury in the Alex Murdaugh double murder trial have tested positive for Covid-19.
That news was announced Monday morning when court reconvened in Colleton County. Both prosecutors and defense attorney asked for a delay, citing concerns that other jurors may contract the virus and that could lead to a mistrial.
However, Judge Clifton Newman denied their requests and ruled that trial would continue and it did so, as scheduled.
